Har Ghar Tiranga Appreciation Post

India will be celebrating its 75th Independence Day from the British Raj on 15th August 2022.

For the celebration of the 75th Independence, the Central Government launched a program 'Har Ghar Tiranga' which stated to hoist the flag at every home from 13-15th Aug and even asked the citizens to change their DP to the National Flag from 1st of August until 15th August.

Now practically speaking does having the flag on your DP make you a patriot? No, it doesn't at least for me. Having the National Flag or not in your DP is completely a personal choice and should be respected. Not having the flag does not make you any less Indian than you are. Everything until here is cool until I came across news reports today of poor people who don't even earn 10RS/- a day being forced to buy 20RS/- flag. People who are refusing to buy are not given their monthly ration and if you take the flag without paying a part of your ration is deducted.

Although Central Government later issued a notice saying no one should be forced to buy a flag and hopefully there are no more such stories.

For this, a website was launched with listed sellers from where you can buy flags. India holds pride in manufacturing hand-printed and hand-stitched flags but now the flags come from Multinational Companies with huge machines producing synthetic flags are being sold. If you want to buy a flag rather than buy from the people selling during a red light or from a footpath you'll help the poor in the process.

In a country like India where there are more problems to be addressed like ever-shrinking jobs, higher inflation, and so many poor people who go to sleep with an empty stomach and no roof above them, is launching a song with so many celebrities useful? Or could that money be rather used in better projects like Har Ghar Khaana or Har Ghar Rozgar which would've led to a better 'Mahotsav'. Can you just imagine for a second Di Caprio, Bradd Pitt, Michael Jordon etc featuring in a music video for American Independence Day?

During the lockdown, there was thali bajao (but the same people just disappeared during the second wave when the whole health system imploded and there was a shortage of oxygen cylinders and countless people losing their lives but the same people reappeared to ask for votes later on) to respect frontline workers and their effort to counter COVID-19 but what is the use if you can't respect them? There have been so many instances where doctors are beaten up or abused because a family member passed away.

This project will bring a sense of unity and patriotism is what is being said but the irony is unity won't be attained until communal violence is sorted out rather than sparked.

A lot of struggle was endured and blood was shed to achieve Independence, not for us to change DP to celebrate it but to respect the independence and keep moving forward like the Ashok Chakra in our National Flag.

To recognise the problems and address them rather than behaving as if it just doesn't exist and getting wrapped up in communal hatred, celebrity gossip, international conspiracy etc.
As I said earlier keeping the national flag as DP is the personal choice of the person but I hope this article gave some different perspectives.

Happy 75th Independence Day.
